Smoke Detector With Low Battery
This video was recorded at my grandmothers house.I noticed her smoke detector was chirping and thought I would record myself seeing what was wrong with it.The detector had a Dollar General battery installed in it which I removed and temporarily replaced with another 9v battery. Then I purchased a 2 pack of smoke detectors and replaced this one and installed the 2nd in the basement. Here are some facts on smoke detectors: -Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years regardless of weather they still work or not.A manufacturing date should be somewhere on your detector. -You should always keep a working 9v battery in your smoke detectors and test them weekly. -Never remove a smoke detector’s battery unless you are replacing it with a new one. -If you smoke detector activates,Investigate as to why it went off.If their is smoke present, leave the building and call 911 immediately. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask, however do not ask pointless or unrelated questions.
Smoke detector false alarms can be a nuisance, but fanning the detector and thoroughly ventilating the area can effectively turn off the alarm without disabling it. @WheelockAlarms Thank you for the reply. We just bought this home over a year ago and the alarm was already here. It looks pretty new from a distant. Again, I cannot get to it because it’s high up. Really odd that it only goes off in the afternoon. Thank goodness that annoying sound doesn’t come on at night, but I’m still curious as to why it only happens a few hours in day time.

@mickeylehuynh wow sounds pretty odd.It could be due to the age of the alarm. If it is older than 10 years (their should be a “replace by the year —-” on the alarm) replace it. I sure hope it is not on a timer.I don’t think heat is a factor either because it would have to be very hot.My advice would be to replace the battery and if the problem doesn’t go away replace the alarm. Hope this helped…

Question, I have this problem and the beeping sounds only go off in the afternoon from say 12:00 to 6 pm, then it stops and starts again the next day, about the same time. Anyone knows why? Is it on some kind of timer or is it the heat in the afternoon that causes it to beep. The reason I’m not replacing the battery yet is because it’s placed in a high spot, in the attic, and I will need someone to help climb up to replace the battery. Just wondering why it only goes off in the afternoon.

@hyperbaricchicken101 Because it is no good. your smoke alarms need to be newer so they work at their best and like I said in the last comment I am done arguing about it.

@hyperbaricchicken101 when a smoke detector chirps like this, the 9 volt battery needs replaced. Also you should replace your smoke detectors every ten years.
