How To Make Smoke Alarms Stop Chirping

Are you a victim of the chirping smoke alarm. We all know how annoying and frustrating it can be to have that alarm beeping every few minutes. Smoke alarm manufacturers programmed this incredibly agitating feature into their smoke detectors to make sure that you keep a good battery in place. Remember, these smoke detectors are your front line of defense against fire in your home. So if one or more of your detectors begins to chirp you should take care of the problem immediately rather than later.

Most of the time, the detector is chirping simply because the battery needs to be replaced. Most detectors available on today’s market are hard wired into your home’s electricity grid, and carry a battery backup. Sometimes fires that break out and cause a general power failure in the home and the battery in your smoke detector is your last defense against these types of fires.

Make sure that you keep fresh batteries in your smoke alarms. If you go on holiday for more than a few days please check your smoke detectors when you return home to make sure that they all are functioning properly. Its quite easy for a smoke detector to chirp its heart out to an empty house, and if you don’t test your alarms when you get home you will never know if they are working properly.

In order to cut down on unnecessary smoke alarm power consumption, don’t place your detectors near your stove, especially if you like to cook a lot. Smoke from your food will constantly set off your alarms and deplete the batteries.

Remember, that even though smoke alarms are very low maintenance appliances, you must keep them working in your home. Make sure you change the batteries at least twice a year even if the alarm hasn’t begun chirping. Test them once every six months or when you return from holiday to make sure they are functioning correctly. Finally, replace them completely every ten years. Following these simple tips will keep your home quiet from chirping alarms, as well as keep you and your family safe from fire.

Does anyone make a smoke detector without the chirping signal?

We are retired and live in a 2-story condo with 4 smoke alarms. One is in the elavator shaft. It costs us $500 to get a repair man to climb into the shaft and stop the chirping. The other alarm is at the top of a 19-ft wall, and one is at the top of a stairway. We have to pay electricians to stop the battery-operated hard-wired alarms from chirping. These alarms go off with new batteries. They go off with batteries dead or removed. They screech, when you try to clean them. One or more of these alarms have been going off for the last 3 months.

Isn’t there a simple alrm that can be plugged in and removed without throwin circuit breakers in most of the house?
